Levels of Care
- Penobscot Nursing Home is licensed by the State of Maine as a Multi-Level Long Term Care Facility and is certified to provide care to MaineCare (Medicaid ) participants. We are also certified by the Federal government as a provider of services to eligible Medicare recipients.
- We accept payment from private insurance plans, the U. S. Veterans Administration and from those residents who wish to pay from their own funds.
Skilled Care - This level may include physical, occupational and speech therapy as well as skilled nursing observation and care. It is frequently the level of care that is provided between a hospital stay and a return to home. There are 20 beds at Penobscot Nursing Home that are "dually certified" for skilled and/or long term care.
Long Term Nursing Care - Traditionally associated with nursing homes in Maine, this is care for a person who will stay at our facility for an extended, often indefinite, period of time. This level includes nursing care, assistance with activities of daily living such as bathing dressing and toileting, and the administration of prescription medication and other treatments as ordered by a physician. Penobscot Nursing Home has 54 beds licensed for Long-Term Nursing Care.
Assisted Living - This level is sometimes referred to as Residential Care. It is for those who can live independently, but need assistance with some activities of daily living. There are 42 beds licensed for Assisted Living.
Hospice - Care for the terminally ill is provided in partnership with Hancock County Home Care and Hospice and with other licensed hospice providers.
- Activities, transportation and special facility events are available for all levels of care.
